What customers complain about
Customers complaining to Monzo, an app-only bank with no branches, most often raise issues grouped under 'product performance / features', which Monzo lists as the main cause of its banking and credit-card complaints. In the six months to 31 March 2026 it opened 67,488 banking and credit-card complaints (a rate of 2.39 per 1,000 accounts) and upheld 23.97% of complaints it closed. Fraud and scam refunds are a prominent theme: Financial Ombudsman data reported in early 2026 showed Monzo had the highest overturn rate among major UK lenders, with the ombudsman disagreeing with Monzo in around 34% of the 3,372 fraud cases it decided in 2025. In July 2025 the FCA fined Monzo £21.1m for financial-crime control failings. Complaints go through app chat, phone (0800 088 4040), email or post, with a 15-day to 8-week final-response window.
Complaint categories
- 1Product performance and features

Figures are Monzo Bank Limited's own complaints return for the reporting period 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026, published at monzo.com/legal/complaints-data as required by FCA rules (firms report complaints data to the FCA every six months and publish a summary above a threshold). Response times
Monzo says it acknowledges a complaint within three business days of receiving it. It aims to send a written 'final response' as soon as possible and generally within 15 days to eight weeks, depending on the subject. This reflects the payment-services rules: for most complaints about payment services a bank must issue a final response within 15 business days (extendable to 35 business days in exceptional circumstances), while the general FCA limit for other complaints is eight weeks. If Monzo cannot resolve a complaint within eight weeks, or issues a final response you disagree with, you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
