Homeowners in the East and West Midlands are invited to participate in the ‘Homes for Net Zero’ research project, a collaborative initiative aimed at understanding and improving energy use in homes. This project is a partnership between E.ON, the Energy Systems Catapult, and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

What Is the ‘Homes for Net Zero’ Project?

The ‘Homes for Net Zero’ programme seeks to gather real-world data on how energy is consumed in homes, particularly focusing on properties that are challenging to decarbonise. By monitoring 1,000 homes across the Midlands, the project aims to identify effective, low-cost measures that can help homeowners reduce energy consumption and prepare their properties for future low-carbon heating solutions.

Why Participate?

As a participant, you will receive:

  • Free tado° room sensors to monitor and optimise your home’s heating.
  • £30 worth of vouchers as a thank you for your involvement.
  • Potential installation of energy-saving solutions, such as:
    • Smart thermostats.
    • Heat meters.
    • Air quality sensors.
    • Carbon monoxide alarms.
    • Loft insulation.
    • Draught proofing.

These measures aim to enhance your home’s comfort and energy efficiency, while contributing valuable data to inform future energy policies and solutions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the project, homeowners should meet the following criteria:

  • Location: Reside in the East or West Midlands.
  • Property Type: Own a home with solid walls and no existing insulation.
  • Heating System: Have a gas combi boiler.
  • Connectivity: Possess Wi-Fi access.
  • Smart Meter: Use a second-generation SMETS2 smart meter that has been installed for more than 12 months.
