The Energy Company Obligation Scheme is a government-led scheme intended to improve the energy efficiency of British homes, through fully funded upgrades.

The ECO4 scheme is designed to assist households in enhancing their residential energy efficiency.

Eligible householders have the opportunity to decrease their energy consumption and expenses through the implementation of improvements on their properties.

This proposed four-year, £1 billion-per-year scheme will be implemented between April 2022 and March 2026. If eligible, households can receive home upgrades at no extra cost to them, ensuring a warmer home for winter. Through ECO4, you can expect a warmer home through the winter, and lower energy bills throughout the year. 

ECO4 eligibility

If you receive any of the following means-tested benefits, you could recieve ECO4 funding:

  • Income based job seekers allowance
  • Income related employment and support allowance
  • Income support
  • Pension credit guarantee credit
  • Working tax credit
  • Child tax credit
  • Universal credit
  • Housing benefit

If you do not fit the criteria, you could still get funding from your local council through the LA Flex scheme.

    What is the LA Flex scheme?

    The LA Flex scheme is an extension of the eligibility of ECO4. The eligibility was expanded to include those who don’t receive benefits, but have a low income, or suffer from a health condition exasperated by the cold.

    The following may be available to you through the ECO4:

    Eligibility for the LA Flex scheme

    To be eligible for the LA Flex fund, you must satisfy one or more of the following requirements:

    • Low-income: If the household income is less than £31,000 before tax.
    • Certain conditions that are impacted by the cold: Those with respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, neurobiological disease, cancer, limited mobility, or autoimmune and immunological diseases.

      • Contact Consumer Rights if you have any questions relating to an application.
      • If approved, Consumer Rights CIC will find a local government approved installer who will schedule a date for an assessor to visit the property.
