Our team at Consumer Rights CIC has been assisting Liverpool people in reducing their energy costs and helping the UK cut its carbon emissions for the past three years.

We are dedicated to assisting the people of Liverpool obtain the funding  to which they are entitled to, with both ECO4 and The Great British Installation Scheme (backed by LA Flex) accessible to those who qualify. 

So how and why do we do this?

The UK is working to meet its Net Zero emissions goal with the aid of ECO4 and other government-backed incentives. We at Consumer Rights are committed to helping this endeavour.

In Liverpool, the average Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating for homes is 65.6, which falls into band D. This is slightly higher than the national average for England and Wales by 0.5 points. For private rental properties in Liverpool, as in the rest of England, it is mandatory to have an energy efficiency rating of at least band E on the EPC Register. Properties rated F or G cannot be legally rented out unless they hold a valid exemption.

Liverpool City Council has been actively enforcing these standards, having contacted owners of 467 privately rented properties with a G rating about the need to comply. Landlords who fail to meet these requirements may face enforcement actions, including possible fines of up to £5,000.

Customer Rights Supporting Liverpool Homes

Through local energy efficiency projects and government-backed programs like ECO4, Consumer Rights has been actively assisting Liverpool locals in raising the EPC rating of their homes.

These programs are especially important in Liverpool because of the city’s wide variety of housing options, many of which are older and less energy-efficient:

  • Pre-1919 homes: Liverpool has a large number of Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses, particularly in areas such as Anfield, Toxteth, and Wavertree. These homes often have solid walls with poor insulation, making them less energy-efficient.
  • Interwar and post-war homes: Properties built between the 1920s and 1950s, including semi-detached and council homes, frequently have outdated heating systems and lack modern insulation.
  • Modern homes and apartments: Liverpool also has a growing number of modern apartments and new builds, particularly around the city centre. While these properties tend to be more energy-efficient, they can still benefit from upgrades such as solar panels or heat pumps.

EPC Ratings for Liverpool

  • C and above (good energy efficiency): Around 30-35% of homes in Liverpool have an EPC rating of C or higher. These properties are relatively energy-efficient but may still benefit from further improvements such as solar panels or modern heating systems.
  • D (moderate efficiency): The majority of homes in Liverpool fall into band D. These properties typically have standard insulation and heating systems but could achieve better efficiency with upgrades.
  • E (poor efficiency): A smaller percentage of properties in Liverpool are rated E, meaning they have poor energy efficiency and are likely to face higher energy bills. These homes often require insulation and heating improvements.
  • F-G (very poor efficiency): Properties with an F or G rating have the lowest energy performance. These homes require significant upgrades, such as wall insulation, double glazing, and modern heating systems, to meet current energy standards.

Many Liverpool homes are eligible for energy efficiency improvement programs since properties must have an EPC rating of D or lower in order to be eligible for government funding.

Property Survey and Upgrade Options

    • The team will arrange for a survey of your property to assess the upgrades that can be offered.
    • If you want to proceed, they will schedule a time to carry out the necessary work.
