An IT developer has designed a website that allows individuals to locate the nearest heated bank to prevent freezing. Warm banks are heated locations where those who cannot afford to heat their houses can stay warm.

Jason Baldry, 35, from Norwich, stated that he created the website in the summer out of concern that such a resource did not previously exist. In his leisure time, he built WarmSpaces.org, a website where anyone operating a warm bank in the UK can register and have their facility added to the map. There were headlines concerning the cost-of-living crisis and rising energy costs. Mr. Baldry stated that we could tell that something was on the horizon.

Slowly, people began to enroll, and then word spread.

‘We currently have over 1,000 listings on the map, and they continue to pour in rapidly.’ He was startled and unprepared by how popular the website has become, significantly since temperatures dropped in the UK last week. Mr. Baldry stated that as soon as the temperature fell, there was a significant increase in traffic.

‘I receive quite a few emails from folks saying, ‘Help!”. I wasn’t prepared for that.

They are sincerely pleading for assistance by stating, “I receive welfare. I am unable to afford to heat my home. Mr. Baldry states he spends many nights adding new warm banks to the map.

It’s good that some locations are beginning to discuss showering facilities and laundry facilities. ‘However, I was also attempting to sign up businesses where it’s already warm, and they’re open… there may not be a free offering, but there may be permitted for people to remain for a bit.
