What customers complain about

Customers most often complain to Good Energy about three things, according to its own 2023–2024 complaints report: Feed-in Tariff (FIT) generation payments, billing (including estimated bills and late or missing bills), and general customer service. Its role administering FIT payments for over 48,000 generators means generation-payment problems, ownership transfers and meter verification feature more here than at a typical supplier. Good Energy reports that in the year to September 2024 it received 1,761 complaints not resolved by the end of the next working day, equal to 2.29% of its domestic customer base. Complaints not fixed at first contact move to an internal review and then, after eight weeks or at deadlock, to the free, independent Energy Ombudsman.

Complaint categories

  1. 1
    Feed-in Tariff (FIT) generation payments

The top reason for complaints in Good Energy's 2023–2024 report. Because Good Energy administers FIT payments for over 48,000 generators, complaints cover missing or delayed quarterly generation payments, difficulties changing ownership or moving to another supplier, and problems verifying a generation meter in line with Ofgem requirements.

  2. 2
    Billing

The second most common theme. Issues centre on getting regular, accurate and clear bills, accounts that have not been billed recently, and how meter readings are estimated where no actual reading is available.

  3. 3

Good Energy publishes ranked top complaint reasons but not a percentage share per theme.

Where that is not possible, it says it will make contact within five working days and keep in touch regularly until the matter is resolved. If you remain dissatisfied, you can request an independent internal review, which Good Energy targets completing within five working days.
