Let’s be real: poor insulation isn’t just a minor annoyance.

  • Fuel poverty is a reality for millions. People are choosing between heating and eating.
  • Mold and damp thrive in cold, poorly insulated spaces, especially when condensation builds up.
  • Health impacts are serious, cold homes have been linked to respiratory issues, heart problems, and even excess winter deaths.

And, many people in these homes are spending more on heating, for worse results.

So, What’s ECO4 Doing About It?

ECO4, short for the Energy Company Obligation (Phase 4), is a UK government scheme that targets exactly this issue: homes that leak heat like sieves.

Running until March 2026, the scheme focuses on improving the energy efficiency of low-income and vulnerable households, especially those with poor EPC ratings (D, E, F, or G).

If you’re eligible, you could get completely free home upgrades that actually make a difference, such as:

  • Loft and wall insulation.
  • Heating system upgrades (like air source heat pumps or new boilers).
  • Ventilation improvements (less condensation, less mold).
  • Smart controls (to stop overheating and save energy).
  • Room-in-roof insulation (for those converted attic bedrooms).
