The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is open to households across the entire UK — in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What the lender checks

A Warm Homes Loan is still a loan. When you apply, the lender carries out its normal affordability, credit and eligibility checks before agreeing to lend. Each lender sets its own criteria, so the details — including the interest rate and how long you can take to repay — can differ from one lender to the next.

Which upgrades qualify?

The scheme covers these clean energy technologies:

  • solar panels
  • electrical storage batteries
  • air-to-water (air source) heat pumps
  • air-to-air heat pumps, once MCS certification is available
  • ground source heat pumps
  • biomass boilers
  • heat network connections
  • micro-renewable systems

See the maximum loan for each one.

Your installer must be MCS certified

All installations, except heat network connections, are carried out by MCS-certified installers. Some lenders only work with particular installers, while others let you choose any MCS-certified installer.

Homeowners and heat pump grants

Homeowners installing a heat pump can also combine the loan with a grant of up to £9,000. How the grant works with the loan.
