Applying for help under the Warm Homes Plan and schemes such as the Warm
Homes: Local Grant is usually straightforward, but having the right paperwork
ready makes it quicker and avoids delays. Councils and scheme administrators
need to confirm that your home and your circumstances meet the rules, so most
of what you are asked for is simple proof of who you are, where you live and
why you qualify. Here is what to have to hand.
Documents you are likely to need
-
Proof of identity and address – for example a driving
licence, passport or a recent utility bill or council tax statement. -
Proof of income or benefits – recent payslips, a
benefit award letter, or evidence of the means-tested benefit you receive,
so the scheme can confirm you meet the income rules. -
Details of your property – whether you own it or rent
privately, and any Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) your home already
has. -
Landlord permission – if you rent, written agreement
from your landlord for the work to go ahead.
Making your application go smoothly
Provide clear, up-to-date copies rather than out-of-date documents, and keep
your own record of everything you send, including dates and any reference
numbers. If you are unsure whether a document counts, ask the council or
scheme before you apply rather than guessing. A home assessment usually forms
part of the process, so expect an assessor to check your property and confirm
which improvements are suitable.
Requirements vary between councils and change as schemes are updated, so
always check the current checklist on GOV.UK or with your local council. To
understand the support itself, read our guide to
the Warm Homes: Local Grant
and browse our grants and support section.
