OVO Energy support

Power Move is OVO’s monthly challenge that encourages customers to shift high-energy tasks, think washing machines, dishwashers, or EV charging, away from the weekday 5–7 pm peak.

Why? Because that’s when the grid is under the most strain and most likely to rely on fossil fuels. By using less energy during that window, you’re making a difference and entering a draw to win bill credits.

Here’s how it works:

• If you keep your weekday 5–7 pm usage under a certain percentage of your total energy use, you get entries into a monthly prize draw.
• The less you use during peak time, the more entries you earn.
• Prizes range from £2 bill credits all the way up to a whole year’s worth of free energy (up to £2,000 credited over 12 months).

You don’t lose anything if you don’t “win”, but if you do, it’s a nice little boost, especially with energy costs where they are.

To take part, you’ll need:

• A smart meter that sends half-hourly usage readings
• To be on a single-rate electricity tariff
• To download the OVO app (specifically the Beyond section where Power Move lives)

Don’t have half-hourly readings turned on? OVO will walk you through it, it’s just a tap or two.

Each month, OVO gives away thousands of rewards, including:

• A year’s worth of free energy (5 winners)
• £50 credits (150 winners)
• £25 credits (250 winners)
• £2 credits for tens of thousands of customers

You don’t have to spend any money to take part. Just change when you use certain appliances, and potentially get rewarded.

Power Move Flex is the next level up. It’s a pilot programme that gives you real-time challenges like:

• Power Up: Use more energy when the grid is cleaner and demand is low.
• Power Down: Use less when demand is high and the grid is under strain.

Hit the targets and get guaranteed financial rewards, no prize draw involved. It’s part of a larger government-backed initiative called CrowdFlex, which explores how flexible energy use can support a more stable grid.

Power Move is incredibly easy to join, especially if you already have a smart meter and use the OVO app. It doesn’t require any big lifestyle changes, and you’re not penalised if you don’t win or skip a month.

That said, it’s not available to everyone. You’ll need to be on a single-rate electricity tariff, and your smart meter has to be able to send half-hourly readings. Also, if you prefer in-person support or don’t use mobile apps, this programme may not be the most accessible.

Still, for most OVO customers, it’s a simple way to save a bit, and help the environment in the process.

This isn’t just about getting a few pounds off your energy bill. Power Move is part of a much bigger shift. By easing pressure on the grid during peak hours, we reduce reliance on fossil fuels and make space for more renewable energy.
