Attention, working parents: the clock is ticking. If you’re aiming to benefit from the expanded 30 Hours Free Childcare scheme for your child in September, your application must land by Sunday, 31st August 2025, just three days from now. No exceptions.

What’s Changed?

  • From September 2025, eligible working parents in England will receive 30 hours of free weekly childcare, up from the current 15 hours, for children aged from nine months to school age.
  • But the upgrade won’t kick in automatically unless you act now. You must apply and obtain your childcare code by 31st August to access the expanded hours.

Who Qualifies?

Eligible if you:

  • Live in England
  • Work (or are about to start a job), earning at least 16 hours/week at the National. Minimum or Living Wage—but each earning under £100,000/year. 
  • Have a National Insurance number and permission to access public funds.
  • Use an approved provider (e.g., nursery, Ofsted-registered childminder).

Also eligible if one parent works and the other is on Carer’s Allowance, ESA, or similar.

Why You MUST Apply by This Sunday

  1. No code = no expanded hours. Even if your child is already getting 15 hours, you need an updated childcare code by term start.
  2. Providers need time. Nurseries must process your code and confirm attendance slots, missing the deadline means waiting until the January term.
  3. Apply early, ease the stress. Setup a GOV.UK childcare account, get your 11-digit code, and submit it to your provider ASAP.

  • Submit application online: By Sunday 31 Aug.
  • Receive 11-digit childcare code:Immediately after approval.
  • Send code to approved provider:xBefore term starts.
  • Reconfirm eligibility (every 3 months): Ongoing.
