The energy price cap is a limit set by Ofgem on the rates you pay per unit
of gas and electricity, and on the standing charge, if you’re on a standard
variable tariff.
It’s reviewed every three months, so it can rise or fall through the year.

A common misunderstanding

The cap limits the rates, not your total bill — how much you pay
still depends on how much energy you use. So there’s no fixed maximum you’ll
be charged; a larger home using more energy will pay more.
