The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives a £7,500 grant towards an air source (air-to-water) or ground source heat pump, £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump, or £5,000 towards a biomass boiler, for properties in England and Wales. Eligible off-gas-grid homes replacing oil or LPG heating can get £9,000 towards an air source or ground source heat pump, for applications made from 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027.
How it works
Your MCS-certified installer applies for the grant on your behalf and takes it off the price, so you don’t pay upfront and reclaim it. It’s open to most property owners, including landlords, who are replacing a fossil-fuel heating system. Not every off-grid home gets the £9,000 rate: the property must be replacing oil or LPG heating, have no mains gas (including a capped supply) or gas meter point, not be on a heat network and not be a new build.
If the property has a valid EPC, your installer includes its reference. If it doesn’t, you can get one, or your installer can provide alternative evidence such as a recent utility bill or fuel receipt and photos of your current heating system. You don’t need to have installed insulation first.
