Shelter is a charity that helps people struggling with bad housing or homelessness through free advice, support and legal services, and campaigns for a fairer housing system.
What it helps with
Shelter’s advisers help with renting problems, eviction, disrepair, homelessness, and dealing with landlords and councils. Its website has some of the clearest guidance available on tenants’ rights, and it runs a free emergency helpline for housing crises.
When to turn to it
Turn to Shelter if you’re threatened with eviction or homelessness, or you’re dealing with serious disrepair or an unresponsive landlord.
