Our team at Consumer Rights CIC has been helping Denbighshire people in lowering their energy costs and supporting the UK’s efforts to decrease carbon emissions over the past three years.
We are committed to assisting Denbighshire households in obtaining the funding to which they are entitled to, with both ECO4 and The Great British Installation Scheme (backed by LA Flex) accessible to eligible homes.
So how and why do we do this?
ECO4 and similar government-backed subsidies have been developed to assist the UK in meeting its Net Zero emissions target. We at Consumer Rights have committed ourselves to helping this cause.
Denbighshire’s average EPC rating for homes is approximately band D, which is consistent with the national average. Wales as a whole has a median EPC score of 67, which falls within band D. Like the rest of Wales, Denbighshire requires private rental houses to have an energy efficiency rating of at least band E on the EPC Register. Properties graded F or G cannot be legally rented out unless they have a valid exemption that is registered on the Private Rented Sector (PRS) Exemptions Register.
The number of EPCs submitted for new homes in Denbighshire increased by 101% during the third quarter of 2024 as opposed to the same time in 202.
Customer Rights Supporting Denbighshire Homes
Consumer Rights has been actively aiding Denbighshire people in increasing their property’s EPC rating through government-sponsored schemes such as ECO4.
Denbighshire’s diversified housing stock, which includes many older, less energy-efficient houses, makes these initiatives more important:
- The age and type of housing stock present challenges for retrofitting to improve energy efficiency. Older homes in the area often require substantial upgrades to meet modern energy standards. However, Denbighshire County Council has made strides in addressing these issues by delivering over 650 affordable and energy-efficient homes since 2020. Recent developments like Llys Llen in Prestatyn and Llys Elizabeth in Rhyl have introduced energy-efficient apartments designed to reduce tenants’ living costs while lowering carbon emissions.
- Fuel poverty remains a concern in Denbighshire due to rising energy costs and the prevalence of older housing stock. Efforts to combat this include retrofitting existing homes and prioritising energy efficiency in new developments.
- Rural and countryside properties: Denbighshire’s rural areas have a significant number of stone-built cottages and farmhouses, which are often poorly insulated and rely on outdated heating systems. These homes benefit greatly from energy efficiency improvements.
EPC Ratings for Denbighshire
- C and above (good energy efficiency): Around 25-30% of homes in Denbighshire have an EPC rating of C or higher. While these properties are relatively energy-efficient, they could still benefit from renewable energy upgrades, such as solar panels or heat pumps.
- D (moderate efficiency): The majority of homes in Denbighshire fall into band D. These properties typically have standard insulation and heating systems but could become more efficient with additional upgrades.
- E (poor efficiency): A smaller percentage of properties in Denbighshire have an E rating, meaning they have poor energy efficiency and are likely to have higher energy bills. These homes often require improvements such as wall insulation and modern heating systems.
- F-G (very poor efficiency): The least energy-efficient homes in Denbighshire fall into bands F and G. These properties need significant upgrades, including insulation, double glazing, and new heating systems, to meet modern standards.
Many homes in Denbighshire are eligible for energy efficiency improvement initiatives since properties must have an EPC rating of D or below in order to be eligible for funding from the government.
